Sidang Skripsi

Malemnya usaha tidur cepet terus minta dibangunin besok paginya sama Tasha.

Eh ternyata selama sidang dosennya anteng aja. Mungkin power ngamuk-ngamuknya udah keburu abis duluan tadi. Tapi tetep aja kebagian kata-kata gak enak. Di bilang “Nih Bab 2 kamu ngapain begini, mau dibilang sok pinter? Kalau S1 gak usah begini segala lah, kalau mau S2 baru pakai ginian”.

Jempol cium elus-elus deh buat kakak.

Sudah lumayan sore sampai akhirnya semua peserta sidang selesai dipanggil. Alhamdulillah walaupun di omel-omelin gak jelas satu angkatan di kasih A semua. Yang lucu pas dosennya nyebutin hasilku, Pak Umar bilang “Ya dengan terpaksa saya kasih A”. Terus aku protes “Ah bapak gak ikhlas sekali ngasihnya”. Terus bapaknya bilang “Ya gak ikhlas seandainya ada nilai A+ saya kasih A+ kamu”.

Scriptie Finally Walk Along With Me

Here comes a time to finally face the last year of my college. Some people say that I’m too fast. It’s the third year of me being a college student and I’m on my way writing my scriptie.

FYI writing scriptie (Thesis in English) for the very first time is the hardest thing in the worldwide!!! Especially when you do not know what do you have to do and what do you have to write in the beginning. I tried to write it as far as I know. I borrowed my senior’s scriptie and bought “how to write scriptie” my lecture’s book. I spent a week sometimes without even sleep at night and had to go to class in the morning. But after attended a scriptie seminar, it was alllllllll eaaaasssyyyyyyy.

After seminar I spent a week writing an outline in Indonesian and English version. It was hard because it is hard for me to find formal word in Bahasa Indonesia. All the people told me that I’m good in English ( actually I’m not but pretending I am) but when I speak Bahasa Indonesia, it’s hard for people to understand. Because I combine my mother language, which is the language I used to speak in my hometown East Kalimantan with the original Bahasa Indonesia. Every word out of my mouth always sounds weird to them. And it’s even weirder when I try to write it down in scientific research essay.

Lucky me I have boyfriend who can be my editor specializing Bahasa Indonesia corrector. He is like a correction pen to my essay. LOL! Sometimes it’s hard for him to understand what I’m trying to say in a sentence too. Well I put all of my effort, my skill, everything to it because this is the very first serious scientific essay I ever write in my life! I wrote down about The Role Of The International Committee Of Red Cross (Icrc) Dealing With Humanitarian Crisis In Armed Conflict In Syria.

It’s even harder to me since I am a perfectionist I want to make no mistake on my very first masterpiece. My lecture said that it is okay to make mistake and I really know about that but the other side of me (go ahead call it EGO) said NO! I have to make this as perfect as I can do. At the end, my lectures supporting me and proud of what I have been doing so far.

At the time I gave my outline paper to my lecture, he said, “ So whom do you want to choose to be your supervisor?” I was shocked because we used to sit back and waiting who’s gonna be our supervisor but this time he asked me who I want to choose. I said well it’s up to him anyway, as long as he gave me super extra ordinary lecture with super smart logical thinking. Finally he chose himself as my supervisor and it such a relief because I adore and love the way he becomes a great person. He also has the same characteristic as me (well that’s what Aries people used to be smart, cool and critics).

It’s not over yet. So I have 2 types of scriptie. The one for my IR Seminar class and the other one is for my final project. I gave them the exact same paper. The first one I gave to my lecture and he said it was amazing and he is on his way correcting things. The other one I gave to the lady who becomes my lecture in IR Seminar class. Do you know what did she do???? She killed me, criticized me, and finished me up in front of all of student in the class. Always disproved my theory and concept illogically and always answer back every time I stick up on my own theory while I believe there is nothing wrong with all of what I wrote down.

The class felt like a grave for half an hour at my seminar session. People keep sending me message to keep my spirit and being patient when she did that to me. It was like a thousand slaps from her. I already know that she doesn’t have broader ideas as the other lectures do. She always stuck on her thought and always thinks her opinion is undoubtable. Look what she has done to my paper :"( !

I was so not in the good mood at all that day. As a perfectionist it’s hard for me for being acceptable and say yes for every mistakes she threw at me while I am pretty sure that was nothing wrong with my paper. My heart broke. Well I know that I am not supposed to be so weak like that. I just hate being treated like that. I hate when people treat me unfairly especially when she did that in front of bunch of people, yelled at me and people believe her. She was choosing me to become the first presenter while no one was able to do that and I was okay with that but the time I have to present she bullied me with her own theory. Can you imagine that? How awful was that!

But go ahead broke me down, telling me that I have to do revision, wasting my time on writing a new theory based on her thought. I DON’T CARE! I’m gonna give way to win this time, not because I am weak but just because I wanted to pass and get and A for her class.

It was only a beginning of an obstacle I have to face during finishing this scriptie up. I hope Allah swt always with me on every single thing I do. Thank you for all the lectures and people who help me on this. I love you all. So good luck for every scriptie writer in this world!!!

How I Met My Oracle

Knowledge is the most unlimited feature in this world. If I was born as a thief I would like to be a knowledge-thief. Even I wasn’t born that way I feel like I always stealing someone’s knowledge. I love to make them talk and stealing every amazing thought they have. It’s quite amazing to meet someone that you never expected to get something extra-ordinary from what they are thinking.
The way I am stealing their knowledge is by asking question. For some people that might annoy them. But for people who has a lot of knowledge a question and sharing the answer is the most lovable thing in the world.

I studied in Universitas Jayabaya Jakarta. You might never hear of that college before. So did I for the very first time. It’s a long story how can I be here right now. This college maybe not as good as University of Indonesia, but for someone like me I got a lot of thing by being a student here. Well I can mention the entire minus thing about this place but I would like to share how this place turns me into someone who always searches for an answer of every curiosity I have.

I never have an idea of searching my lectures background. I don’t know why, since I am a kind of person who always wants to know about every person I am interested in.  Since I have becoming an International Relations student in faculty of political and social studies, every International and political issues make me think a lot, critics a lot and finally I let it all out into my Twitter account @v_tRa , the thing people call “Kultwit”. Well I feel lucky enough to find those people who become my lectures. Most of them are writers. It means they really are smart people. Great people in this world always wrote their thought and finally become a writer.  So thank you sir and madam for teaching me (nevertheless not all of them are “that kind of person I mentioned”) but I always find a way to talk face to face with them and steal something that regular people can’t see it often.

First time I met this lady, I can feel she has something extra-ordinary on her mind. She was my first favorite lecture ever. She is really discipline, always come on time, she doesn’t allow us to wear weird outfit during her class and on test day she kicks everyone who wears sandals out of class. She flew to the Netherlands to talk about law once when she didn’t come to my class. The heart rob moment was when she stop talking, took her cell phone and said “ the time you will grateful the most is the time you have grandchild, I miss my grandchild” and she smiled. I really miss you mam, thank you for teaching me everything.

I met someone well my friend tell me that she is quite annoying. I think her critics are too subjective on every single thing she says. But by the time I had time to talk face to face with her, amazing she is a writer and her first official book got published and I bought it in the famous bookstore nearby (even I still haven’t read it yet because there are so much thing I have to read, well I promise soon). She loves Korean things, she is a politician and so nationalist. I learn a lot about something I have no idea about it before from her. So thank you J

I met this gentleman at his class. He is so attractive, so young, so well minded. Well I can say people will agree with me if I categorize him as the most favorite lecture I have ever met. I quite agree that he’s not a lecture he is a standup comedian. He can totally rock my stomach and make me laugh REALLY out loud when he said something funny and he wasn’t even changing his mimic. He has poker face, seriously. I was about to fall from my own chair when he tried to “bully” me with his funny words. Dang! I adore him. Beyond of that he is quite smart. He teaches me how to write and be a researcher. Thank you sir! J

I met this guy. He is weird in ways, good and bad. No offense, but everyone try to make a distance toward him. Sometimes he yells at us sometimes he says something funny. I think he is a kind of person who always moody. So be careful. Well at the time I got a time to talk with him, he is a nice person (probably because I am a young girl and he has no reason yell at me. Lol). He said to me he has a six sense or some kind of that. Well he is a journalist, I can say he is smart too because he has a lot of knowledge, sometimes he writes in English, even he is quite annoying sometimes, I still find the other side of him that no one can see it. Thank you for letting me using calculator (I hate math).

This woman. Well I don’t like the way she remember all the things from the book she gave us. It means she already read that book for a thousand times. But she was the first lecture who gave us study guide in English. When everyone confused when they had to read all of that I was the one who dancing all night long reading all of that. She is expert in European area. So everything about Europe, go ask her. Thank you for teaching me that.

And I met those two gentleman people called them as the smartest lectures in our faculty. The first one is the one who likes to force us to write an answer for the quiz with limiting the words either 100 words or something. The other one is the one who always come with the newest issue, trend and everything. The first one is always telling controversy statement such as “Eastern people characteristic is being hypocrite” some of people may not agree with his statements but I always have the same statement with him. This is weird when people afraid of telling their opinion in front of him, I always come up with the opinion that he always agree with that, I think that was the funniest thing about me and that lecture. I call him mysterious and I love to make him bring up everything on his mind. He is mysterious to me because sometimes he tells us he knows about Middle East area, sometimes Africa and also Japan, I’m so curious about who is this gentleman actually? The other one is the famous person in my country. He wrote a lot of article in the famous newspaper, wrote some amazing books and has a survey council and also does a lot of critics toward this country or everything. I learn a lot from him. Even he is a super duper busy man, I always sneak out asking question and show up annoy him at his office :P. I wish you could teach me to write in the newspaper so I can be “big” too.

So behind all of “not good” things I can find in my college, I can always enjoying every side of good thing of it. We can always take a good side of people and steal what they have in their mind and adopt it to our mind. Make people talk and stealing their knowledge is what I always enjoying the most, nothing could be better than that.

Me asking question

My classmates ZeroNine from Universitas Jayabaya and I were attending Roundtable discussion organized by International Committee of the Red Cross 17 November 2011 in Redtop Hotel Jakarta. The discussion was about Cyberwarfare : How does IHL regulate it?

The speakers were Mr. Aswin Sasongko From Direktorat Jenderal Aplikasi Informatika ( Ministry of Communication and Information) , Mr. Kusnanto Anggoro (The University of National Defense) , Mr.Richard Desgagne (ICRC) and Ms.Emily Crawford (University of Sydney).

First Vincent Nicod from ICRC delivered his speech, here is the summary:

-Long before Henry, the great figures including religious leaders already have the idea to limit the tools and how to fight

-       He quoted Abu Bakar Ash Siddiq : “ When you fight for a glory of God, act like a man never turning back …”
-       ICRC doesn’t know the worst effect from cyber warfare but principles of distinction and proportionate should remain in respect
-       International Humanitarian Law (IHL) provides adequate guarantees for the protection of civilians, including the threat posed by cyber warfare

The second person who delivered the speech was Prof. Dr. Budi Susilo.S Governor of National Defense Institution, here is the summary :

-       Military threats are Defense and Security

1. Threat to trigatra elements:
geographic: Indonesia is very strategic position
Protecting boundaries with information technology
natural resource potential of IT
population data as a strategy and IT security systems

2. Aspects pancagatra
by IT threatens the destruction of the cyber world of the military

-Defense resilience: IT systems to cripple the enemy, demoralizing war in moral, political, etc.

Application of humanitarian law:
At the beginning of the 20-21 century we should think of technology in the international rules in cyber attacks, cyber terrorism and cyber auctation

The principle of distinction: the distinction between society and civilian objects and military

Recommendation:
1. It is important for every country uphold humanitarian law
2. Need of international agreements in cyber warfare to be clearly established law
3. Cooperation at the institutional level national defense institution, universities, experts etc. as well as the executive, legislative, etc.

-       Mastering of technology is now a strength parameters of a country.

-       The use of IT as a means or method of warfare is a threat to the resilience national defense and security.

Next the first speaker of the discussion was Mr. Aswin Sasongko From Direktorat Jenderal Aplikasi Informatika ( Ministry of Communication and Information). He was talking about Operational Reality of Cyber Warfare. Here is the summary :

-Cyberspace : Access (phone) , networks (wifi, fiber, cable), applications, contents

-       Almost all who derive real space can be transformed into cyberspace.

-       What is prohibited by international humanitarian law in real space should also be prohibited from cyber space.

-        Moral values & ethics in real space must also be upheld in cyberspace. Avoid permissiveness

-       There are attempts to create a cyber space (the virtual world without borders) but still a discussion. Indonesia has yet to be.

_ Common types of cyber attack in Indonesia : Network scanning, port scanning, vulnerability scanning, web deface attacking and vulnerability crawling

The Second speaker of the discussion was Mr. Kusnanto Anggoro (The University of National Defense). He was talking about humanitarian aspects of cyber warfare. Here is the summary :

-       Cyber attacks can reply was associated with IHL should have a political purpose

-       Not all cyber attacks, including cyber warfare. There are 2 elements to qualify cyber attacks as cyber warfare: political objectives & deliberateness. Without political objectives it becomes Cyber Security.

The Third speaker of the discussion was Mr.Richard Desgagne (ICRC). He was talking about IHL and Cyber Warfare. Here is the summary :

-       There is no mention specifically about cyber warfare in the IHL.

-       The basic principles still apply such distinction, proportionality in cyber warfare. Eg hospitals should not be attacked.

-       So cyber warfare operations must respect the existing provisions to protect the citizens & civilian objects.

-       It is difficult to trace anyone who violates IHL in cyber warfare.

The Fourth speaker of the discussion was Ms.Emily Crawford (University of Sydney). She was talking about State response to Cyber Warfare. Here is the summary :

-       Countries such as America, UK & the Netherlands already have strategies for coping with cyber warfare.

-       What's happening now, the state tends to develop defensive strategies in cyber warfare.
